If you are a member of an occupational scheme, you should, in the first instance, talk to the trustees. If you have a personal pension plan, talk to the pension provider.

If, after doing so, you are dissatisfied with the answers you have been given, you can move on to : OPAS, the Occupational Pension Scheme Advisory Service, whose rôle is to investigate disputes related to occupational and personal pensions (but not state schemes).

Your next port of call would be the Pensions Ombudsman .Pension scheme rules are set by the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Agency (OPRA). This is an independent statutory authority or a 'quango', which took over the work of the Occupational Pensions Board in 1997.

The Inland Revenue Pensions Office sets the tax rules for pension schemes. Getting good financial advice will make real difference to achieving your goals. A good financial adviser will help you understand and prioritize your financial needs, as well as recommend products that may help you.
