Failed Extension
A failed extension is a form of market action which occurs either following a sell or buy signal and comprises a move by the market back beyond the high or low from which that signal was given.
This stops everyone out, but then the move fails and the market moves, often sharply, in the direction of that original signal. In the view of professional trader, John Piper, this can be an excellent trading signal and one to watch out for.
